THE KIEV’S ANTIQUITY: ILLYA CHIRIKOV AS THE FIFTH KAMYANOZATONSKYY’S VOIVODE (1706-1711)
There is historical-and-documentary issue about voivode Ilya Chirikov, who was father of the famous explorer, Alexei Chirikov, discoverer of Alaska (from site of the Russian Empire). The author refutes the widespread version of 1950s’ that Ilya Chirikov was ‘commandant of Kyiv City’ and alternatively proposed version that Ilya Chirikov was the fifth and last voivode of the Zaton Stone (Kamjanyy Zaton) fortress in 1706-1711 i.e. in modern Zaporizhzhya region, Ukraine. He was also an agent of Peter-the-Great in camp of Hetman Ivan Mazepa. Respectively, childhood and primary education of Alexei Chirikov could take place also somewhere in the Kyiv-Dnipropetrovsk-Zaporizhzhya Region, Ukraine.
